Being on the other side of a fashion editorial is always an interesting experience for me. I spend so much of my time creating, producing, and publishing fashion imagery that being the subject instead of the person making the editorial decisions is a very different feeling. In fact, this was the first fashion editorial I had participated in as the subject since my professional modeling days, which now seem like another lifetime. So when I was selected for the cover and a fashion editorial in Great Britain’s BLUR Magazine, Issue #289, I was genuinely honored.

I have been fortunate to appear on a number of magazine covers and in editorials, and each has been meaningful in its own way. What made this experience particularly interesting was seeing how BLUR interpreted the images once they were in their hands. The shoot itself brought together resources from KL Publishing Group, including photography, styling, and fashion production, but once those images were delivered to BLUR, the presentation was entirely in their hands. Running a fashion magazine inevitably gives you a very particular eye. You notice the quality of the layouts, image selection, pacing, typography, and overall presentation. BLUR did not disappoint. I was thrilled with the professionalism of the issue and with the way they presented both the cover and editorial. There was also a wonderful surprise inside. Among the photographs BLUR selected was an image of me holding AGE OF POWER, the latest collector’s issue of AGENDA. Seeing that photograph incorporated into my BLUR editorial created an unexpected intersection between my roles as publisher, fashion creative, and editorial subject. Here I was appearing in another publication while holding the publication I oversee.

Having spent so much of my career on the production side of publishing, I know firsthand what it takes to bring photography, fashion, design, editing, and production together into a finished issue. That knowledge made me appreciate BLUR’s presentation even more. I received my copy in the mail the other day, and the issue didn’t disappoint. I now have two British magazines with me on the cover sitting on my coffee table: Your Spirit (UK), released in 2024, and now BLUR. There is something rather special about seeing them sitting there together. Thank you to BLUR Magazine, it was a pleasure to experience what it feels like to be on the other side of the page again.
